OUR STORY

Tatiara Transport is a second-generation family owned and operated business, founded by John Schneider in the 1950s. John had a passion for riding motorbikes, which naturally drew him to the open road where his love for driving collided with a growing demand for transport during a time of rapid agricultural development. As farms expanded and the need to move materials and equipment grew, John purchased his first truck in 1948 and began carting Mallee tree stumps to the Nhill Hospital in Western Victoria, where they were burned for heating. These humble beginnings ignited a lifelong love for life behind the wheel.

Soon after, John began hauling goods for Tatiara Distributors, a Bordertown-based hardware store owned by his brother. Through this partnership, John - and what would soon become Tatiara Transport - began operating regular linehaul freight across the South Australian/Victorian border during a time when road transport competed closely with the railways. Before long, the business expanded its services across Melbourne, Adelaide and everywhere in between, while evolving from general freight management to refrigerated logistics.

Over time, John’s dedication built a reputation for reliability and customer service, which still drives the business today. Now in the hands of his son Mark, Tatiara Transport remains a proudly family-owned and operated business, carrying forward a tradition of hard work and transport excellence. Mark continues John’s legacy with the same commitment to customer satisfaction, while steering Tatiara Transport through today’s logistics landscape.
